I have a iPod touch 2G and was planning to get the 3G but the Zune HD looks awesome. Help please. Thanks!

Having received my Zune HD over the weekend, I can say that it’s a great alternative to the iPod Touch. I highly recommend it.

The screen clarity is amazing. Even though the screen itself is not HD it will remind you of the really sharp HD TVs you see in stores.

The device itself is very small and compact. This is unlike previous Zune models where the actual device did not look or feel as good as an iPod.

The HD radio is an improvement, but not something you should base your decision on.

What really makes the Zune HD superior to the iPod is not the device itself, but the Zune service that comes with it. For $15 a month you get access to unlimited downloads with the Zune pass. If you’ve never experienced a subscription music service before, prepare to be "wowed". The Zune pass is superior to other services since you get to keep 10 songs each month. So you’re really paying only $5 a month. You won’t get this with the iPod.

The Zune software is also better than iTunes. The new Smart DJ feature is amazing. If you have a Zune pass, it’s like having an amped up version of Pandora, with a lot more music.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision!

Can you get the cool now playing screen on zune HD with songs from limewire?

  2. I would get the Zune HD, since the 3G isn’t much of an improvement from the 2G. Only the speed has been enachnaed a little. I just got my Zune HD on the first day, and I love it! Great sound quality, OLED screen, and HD radio.

  3. I’d have to go with the ipod touch. Waaay more apps. Zune HD does have OLED screen and couple of other features, but Ipod touch has way more and better apps as well as a bigger screen.

  5. Honestly what is with everyone obsession with apps? Are you buying the product because it’s good at what it does.. or because it has a lot of various 3rd party applications? I agree apps are good as they enhance the attractiveness of a product.. but should NOT be the sole reason to purchase something.

Also the screen difference is only 0.2", so not significantly different imo.

Now for your question: What do you plan on using it for? If for music/video I would recommend the Zune HD hands down, the quality of sound/performance is better than that of the iPod touch. However if you want the "all-in-one" get the iPod touch.

I personally am waiting to get the Zune HD when a larger version comes out, I’ve had good experiences with its predecessor (The Toshiba Gigabeat, still have it) and with what time I had to mess around with it at the stores.

  6. I currently own an iPod Touch 2G, and I am really happy I got it.

    1. The large number of free apps and games. Especially since Ubisoft and Electronic Arts are all making games for the Touch.
    2. The iPod Touch can play Genius Mixes, available with iTunes 9, I really like genius mixes because it keeps playing an endless stream of music that sounds great together.
    3. You can IM, email, surf on the iPod Touch. So far, there isn’t any app for MSN or Yahoo or any instant messaging for the Zune HD.
    4. The iPod Touch has a bigger screen of 3.5 inches as opposed to 3.3 of the Zune HD, you might think it is a small difference but when you watch movies or music videos on it, it really shows.
    5. iTunes Store is amazing. With the wide array of music and shows and movies. There is the Zune Pass… but it allows streaming and only 10 downloads per month. Which means other than the 10 downloads, you won’t get to keep anything after you cancel your subscription.

Last but not least, it is an iPod! :D

  7. Get a Zune HD!!! Who cares if the Ipod has way more apps than the Zune. About 1/4 of those apps are useless. The Zune has HD Radio which is cool. OLED screen baby. Zune software is easy to put music on from like music downloaders **cough** limewire. So if you want to get a good mp3 player get a Zune. Im pretty sure they would release more apps for the Zune. Oh and Zune has games!!! :)

  10. Zune HD. Hands down.
Sure, the ipod has a crap load of usless apps, but the Zune HD has much better things such as :
    OLED Screen
    HD Radio
    HD Videos Output
    Nvidia Tegra

The only thing that the Ipod touch has and the zune doesn’t is the ginormous app store. Nothing else.

  11. considering the fact the zune hd is a new product, i wouldnt rely on it too quickly, new products will have problems. I would say stick with a ipod touch since it already has a bunch of testing and reviews over 3 years. or you can wait for a year a too and buy the next generatons of the HD… which i highly doubt u cdan wait for >.>

  13. well it depends…
personally i would go for zune hd. hd radio. hd movies (this instrument have nvidia hd video card.)
i really believe apple has better apps and fast internet browsing.
Apps doesn’t really matter. this instrument is really for streaming hd movies and listen to hd radio.
i prefer oled screen (zune hd) over lcd (apple itouch).
if you like to have multiple apps and games for your free time go for apple itouch

  15. Jobs and company clearly plan on containing new productions from newspapers, magazine publishers, TV electronic networks and Hollywood movie studios as the iPad bowls innocent. But there wasn’t much talk about any of those media products during the launch event.
