Here is checkers on the Zune HD. By its nature the game is relatively basic but it is still fun to play. In the video you see that the game is multiplayer capable, on the Zune between two people and wirelessly against another Zune HD owner. Also you see that there are two ways to move your pieces, either by dragging them to the desired spot or tapping to move to a different location. While not graphically intensive, the game still had a fun environment that did not disappoint visually. What might not be too visible in the video are the visual clues as to where to move your pieces. Overall the game was fun to play. This video was recorded on a Samsung i910 Omnia.

This is a quick preview of me going through the tutorial provided with Lucky Lanes Bowling. This is one of the new games that came out for the Zune HD on 11/11/09. You see there are two ways to bowl, using the touch screen and (when space provides) using the accelerometer. Both are easy to use and effective methods in achieving your primary objective, getting all the pins down. The accelerometer is responsive I just had some trouble holding the camera and keeping the Zune in frame. The game is multiplayer-compatible over Wi-Fi, supporting a total of four players. You’ll want to be careful when using the accelerometer as you might experience the flying-Wii remote effect, if you bowl too hard (silicone case anyone?). This is a quick preview of the free ride mode in Vans Sk8: Pool Service, a skateboarding game, on the Zune HD. The game is multi-touch capable and you are required to use that to your advantage as you perform skateboard tricks while playing the game. You move one finger or combine two finger moves together to make tricks happen. The game comes with its own in-game soundtrack and you are also able to playback tracks of your own. While the game is played holding your Zune horizontally, you can rotate your Zune HD 180 degrees while playing and the screen will rotate as well. This was not shown in the video. Graphics are again smooth and beautiful, save for a minor stutter when the game was changing tracks which you can see ~4:00. This video was recorded on a Samsung i910 Omnia.

This is a quick example of Project Gotham Racing on the Zune HD. As you can see the graphics are beautiful and the the frame rate is fluid. Any stutters are coming from my phone’s video camera. The game does support multi-touch so you can have a finger on the brake and gas at the same time (a.k.a. a burnout for kudos points). There are multiple camera angles which you can switch to without any performance hit. Finally steering is accomplished through use of the accelerometer. Apologies for letting the Zune HD get out of frame, holding the camera with one hand and driving with the other is rather difficult. The game is more fun when using two hands. This was recorded on a Samsung i910 Omnia.
